What are your specifications for custom artwork?
When working with creative design programs such as InDesign, Quark, Pagemaker, etc… we
request the virgin files along with PDF files for each piece of artwork. Or, you can
submit high resolution PDF files that are ready to go. We can accept a JPEG, EPS, or
TIFF file as well, as long as they are flattened at a minimum of 300dpi.

How will letting Altair manage the design and production of my direct mailing pieces, and

How do I upload a file?
First, click on an "Upload Your Documents" link on this FAQs page, or on the Home or Services page of our website. Next,
enter "Guest1" in the "Password" field on the "Upload" dialog window that displays, and press the "Enter" button. This will cause the file
selection dialog window on your computer to open. Next, select the file you want to upload from your computer, and click the "Open"
button to get back to the "Upload" dialog window. Now, in the "Upload" dialog window press the "Upload" button and the file you selected
will be uploaded and delivered to Altair. Repeat this process for each file you want to upload to Altair, including any image files, or any text or word processing files that contain any instructions or advertising copy you wish to be used in your direct mail project.

Can I email my files to you?
If for some reason your files do not upload properly, you may email your files to

Are any revisions permitted to a direct mailing piece that Altair designs?
While we always work hard to create for you just the right design on the first try,
we gladly provide up to three rounds of revisions at no additional cost.

How much space is needed in my direct mailing piece for the recipient address?
Altair designs a variety of types and sizes of direct mailing pieces. Differently sized
mailing pieces require different amounts of space for printing the address. Please
contact Altair to have a direct mail specialist discuss your specific design requirements.

What printing processes does Altair use?
Altair can provide conventional sheetfed or web printing for medium to large runs,
and digital printing for small runs. Please consult with Altair beforehand to
determine which process matches the quantity and style of the piece you are planning
to print and mail.

Does Altair offer volume discounts on direct mail printing services?
Yes, an Altair direct mail specialist will discuss your specific direct mailing
campaign goals and printing requirements with you. We then will offer you a
competitive discount based on volume printing. The higher the quantity one prints,
the lower the price per thousand rate. And, Altair is always ready to work within
a customer’s budget where possible, especially on high volume work.

Can an image that is less than 300 dpi resolution be printed?
Your image can still be printed at less than 300dpi. Although the print quality for
an image of less than 300 dpi resolution is significantly lower than for higher
resolutions, Altair does have the capability to print such images. We accomplish
this by using 200Line Screen technology, which enables us to use up to 400dpi for
any print job. Please remember that images of 300dpi or greater will give you the
best print quality.

If I have some custom artwork I would like to be used in my mailing piece,
what types of image files will
you accept?
Altair encourages you to submit a high resolution PDF file containing your images.
We will accept and can work with JPEG, TIFF, or EPS files provided they are flattened
at a minimum of 300dpi.

If I provide Altair with design images for my direct mailing piece, can I request
changes to be made to the images during the printing process?
Any mailing piece designs submitted to our printers must be final designs. However,
our talented creative design staff can make revisions and additions to any design
images you provide, at very competitive design rates, and show them to you for your
review and approval. Then we will carefully submit the final design to our printers
to complete the mailing piece production. You will see another “printer proof”
before we go to press.

Will I be able to proof and review your design of my mailing piece before it
goes to the printers?
Yes, an Altair direct mail specialist will ensure you are contacted when your design
is finished, and will provide a proofing copy for your review and approval.
